India’s Priteesmita Bhoi delivered a sensational performance at the Youth Asian Games, breaking the world youth record in clean & jerk to clinch gold in the girls’ 44kg weightlifting category on Sunday.

The 16-year-old lifted 92kg in clean & jerk to set the new world youth record and added 66kg in snatch, for a total of 158kg, securing the top spot on the podium.

On a day of impressive performances for India, the country also bagged a silver medal in the boys’ 60kg category. Priteesmita, who began strongly with an 87kg lift in her first clean & jerk attempt, continued to raise the bar with determination and composure to achieve her record-breaking feat.

Her achievement adds to India’s growing medal tally and highlights the rising talent of young Indian athletes making their mark on the international stage.
