Jharsuguda Sizzles: Odisha Heatwave Intensifies

Scorching Heat Grips Odisha: Jharsuguda Sizzles at 45.4°C, 14 Towns Cross 40°C Mark

Odisha continues to reel under an intense heatwave, with 14 towns across the state recording temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius on Monday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The industrial town of Jharsuguda emerged as the hottest place in the state, registering a scorching 45.4°C.

Jharsuguda was not only the hottest in Odisha but also the second hottest in the country, just behind Chandrapur in Maharashtra, which recorded a maximum temperature of 45.6°C, the IMD noted in its evening bulletin.

The searing heat extended across several districts, with Boudh recording 43.2°C, followed by Titlagarh, Sambalpur, and Sundargarh at 43°C each. Other towns facing the brunt of the summer blaze included Bhawanipatna (42.5°C), Hirakud (42.4°C), Bolangir (42.3°C), Sonepur (42.1°C), and Rourkela (42°C).

The IMD has issued warnings urging people to take necessary precautions against heat-related illnesses. Authorities have advised staying indoors during peak afternoon hours, staying hydrated, and avoiding strenuous outdoor activities.

With the mercury continuing to rise, concerns are growing over potential impacts on health, agriculture, and daily life. The state government is monitoring the situation closely and may issue further advisories as temperatures persist at alarming levels.

Residents are urged to remain alert and follow safety guidelines as the state braces for more sweltering days ahead.
