Jharkhand to Study Odisha’s Mining Model to Boost Revenue

Ranchi: Jharkhand’s Finance Minister, Radhakrishna Kishore, announced on Saturday plans to send a team to Odisha to analyze its successful strategies for maximizing revenue from the mining sector.

Jharkhand, home to 40% of India’s mineral reserves, currently generates an annual revenue of ₹11,000-₹12,000 crore from mining. In comparison, Odisha, leveraging similar resources, earns approximately ₹40,000 crore annually.

“We need to explore ways to increase the state’s revenue. If we make a little effort in the mining sector, we can significantly boost our earnings,” said Kishore during a public address.

The minister emphasized the importance of adopting effective practices to unlock Jharkhand’s full potential in the mining sector. The proposed study aims to identify best practices and policy frameworks in Odisha that can be adapted to Jharkhand’s context, fostering economic growth and development.

The initiative reflects a broader push towards maximizing the economic benefits of natural resources and addressing the revenue gap between mineral-rich states.
