Iyer discharged, stable after injury scare

Iyer discharged from hospital, stable now: BCCI
India’s ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer has been discharged from a Sydney hospital after undergoing a minor procedure for a spleen and rib cage injury sustained during the third ODI against Australia. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed on Saturday that Iyer is “stable and recovering well.”
“He (Iyer) is now stable and recovering well. The BCCI Medical Team, along with specialists in Sydney and India, are pleased with his recovery, and he has been discharged from the hospital today,” the board said in an official statement.
The 30-year-old suffered the injury while taking a stunning running catch to dismiss Alex Carey off Harshit Rana’s bowling during the match. The incident led to immediate medical attention and hospitalization in Sydney.
Iyer is expected to return to India once he is fit to fly but will remain out of competitive cricket for at least the next two months. The injury has raised concerns over his availability for the upcoming home series and the early phase of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season.
BCCI’s medical team will continue to monitor his rehabilitation closely in coordination with specialists in India.
