Indian Women’s Hockey Team Clinches Silver at Women’s Asia Cup 2025

Hangzhou, Sep 14 – The Indian Women’s Hockey Team secured the Silver Medal at the Women’s Asia Cup 2025 after a hard-fought 1-4 defeat against host nation China in the final. Despite a promising start, India was unable to hold off China’s relentless attacks in the second half.

India took an early lead in the very first minute when veteran forward Navneet Kaur converted a penalty corner with a powerful strike, giving the team an early advantage. However, China quickly regained composure and intensified their attacking play, creating multiple chances throughout the first half.

India’s defense and goalkeeper Bichu Devi stood firm in the early stages, successfully blocking several penalty corners and open-play attacks. Sunelita Toppo and Bichu Devi made impressive interventions, denying China’s early attempts to equalise.

The deadlock was broken in the 21st minute when China’s captain Ou Zixia converted a penalty corner, bringing the scores level before halftime. Both teams entered the break with the game wide open.

India fought hard in the third quarter, keeping China mostly confined to their half and repeatedly entering the circle. However, in the 40th minute, China capitalised on a missed opportunity by India to launch a quick counterattack. Li Hong raced down the circle and scored with a back-handed shot to put China ahead.

China sealed their victory with two late goals in the 51st and 53rd minutes. Zou Meirong converted a first-touch finish following a pass from Ying Zhang, while Zhong Jiaqi scored after a swift run from the right flank, slotting the ball past the Indian goalkeeper.

The final scoreline of 4-1 in favour of China reflected their dominance in the latter stages of the match. Nevertheless, the Indian team’s performance, including a spirited start and solid defensive efforts, earned them a well-deserved Silver Medal.

This achievement adds to India’s growing legacy in women’s hockey and showcases their resilience and potential on the continental stage. The team’s determination and skill throughout the tournament remain a source of pride for the nation.
