India’s Tennis Campaign Ends in Single Day at Paris Olympics
India’s tennis hopes at the Paris Olympics were dashed in a single day as Sumit Nagal and the men’s doubles duo of Rohan Bopanna and N. Sriram Balaji were eliminated in their opening matches.
Sumit Nagal, making his second Olympic appearance, was the first to step onto the court on Sunday. Facing French player Corentin Moutet, Nagal showcased his strong baseline game but ultimately fell short. Moutet secured a stylish victory with a scoreline of 2-6, 6-4, 5-7 after two hours and 28 minutes of intense play on Court 7 at Roland Garros.
In the men’s doubles, the Indian pair of Bopanna and Sriram Balaji also faced a disappointing end to their campaign, succumbing to their French challengers. Despite their efforts, the team was unable to advance past the first round, bringing an abrupt end to India’s tennis campaign at these Games.
The swift exit marks a short-lived Olympic journey for Indian tennis, with both singles and doubles events concluding on the very first day of competition. The team’s early departure highlights the challenges faced on the global stage and sets the stage for reflection and future preparation as India looks ahead to upcoming tournaments and Olympic events.
