Indian Women’s Hockey Team Confident Ahead of FIH Pro League Matches in Bhubaneswar

After their remarkable Women’s Asian Champions Trophy (ACT) triumph in November, the Indian Women’s Hockey Team is set to compete in the FIH Pro League, with home support expected to play a crucial role in their campaign. The matches will take place at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar from February 15 to 25.
India will open their campaign with back-to-back matches against England on February 15 and 16, followed by clashes against Spain on February 18 and 19. The team will then take on two of the world’s top-ranked teams—World No. 4 Germany on February 21 and 22, and World No. 1 Netherlands on February 24 and 25.
The Indian squad is led by Arjuna Awardee Salima Tete, with Navneet Kaur as vice-captain. The team comprises experienced players such as Savita, Sushila Chanu, Nikki Pradhan, Vandana Katariya, Udita, Lalremsiami, and Sharmila Devi, alongside rising talents like Deepika, Sunelita Toppo, and Jyoti.
Despite finishing eighth in the last FIH Pro League season, with only eight points from 16 games, India aims for a strong comeback this year. The players are heading into the tournament after their stellar performances in the Hero Women’s Hockey India League, adding to their momentum.
Speaking ahead of the crucial matches, Captain Salima Tete expressed confidence in the team’s preparation. “We can’t wait to play at the Kalinga Stadium again and win as many points as we can. We are facing tough opponents, but I believe we are ready to take on the challenge and perform well.”
Head Coach Harendra Singh echoed similar optimism, stating, “The girls have worked extremely hard in training camp, and I am confident that we can match our opponents. With the home crowd behind us, we need to stay focused and secure as many points as possible.”
The tournament, which features the world’s top hockey teams, is expected to be a thrilling contest. Indian fans will be hoping for a stellar performance from the home team as they aim for redemption and a much-improved finish in this year’s edition.
