India Rout Switzerland, Reach Junior Quarters

India Enter Junior Hockey World Cup Quarterfinals With 5-0 Win Over Switzerland
Hosts India stormed into the quarterfinals of the FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup Tamil Nadu 2025 after completing their league stage with an unbeaten record, defeating Switzerland 5–0 at the Madurai International Hockey Stadium on Tuesday.
Led by captain Rohit and coached by former India goalkeeper PR Sreejesh, the Indian colts displayed dominant, attacking hockey throughout the match. The hosts will now face Belgium in the quarterfinals on December 5 in Chennai.
India’s early aggression paid off quickly, with birthday boy Manmeet Singh scoring in the 2nd minute. He doubled the lead in the 11th minute with another superb field goal. Sharda Nand Tiwari extended the advantage to 3–0 in the 13th minute with a well-converted penalty corner.
Despite cyclonic weather conditions, a strong crowd in Madurai witnessed India’s fluid gameplay. Arshdeep Singh, who had netted a hat-trick against Oman, continued his fine form by adding India’s fourth goal in the 28th minute. Goalkeeper Prince Deep Singh also impressed with crucial saves that denied Switzerland any scoring opportunities.
India maintained complete control in the final quarter as Sharda Nand scored his second goal of the match through a penalty corner in the 54th minute. His clinical performance earned him the Player of the Match award.
The win follows India’s earlier emphatic victories over Chile (7–0) and Oman (17–0), signaling strong momentum heading into the knockout stages.
