India Now a Food Surplus Nation, Aiming for Global Food Security: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Saturday that India has achieved food surplus status and is committed to addressing global food and nutritional security challenges. Speaking at the 32nd International Conference of Agricultural Economists (ICAE) in New Delhi, Modi highlighted the country’s progress and its role in the global agricultural landscape.
The Prime Minister emphasized that agriculture remains central to India’s economic policies. He pointed out that the Union Budget for 2024-25 has significantly enhanced efforts towards sustainable and climate-resilient farming practices. This includes developing a comprehensive support system for Indian farmers, aiming to strengthen the agricultural sector and ensure long-term food security.
The ICAE, held in India for the first time in 65 years, provided a platform for discussing critical issues related to agriculture and food security. Modi’s address underscored India’s dedication to leveraging its surplus food production capabilities to contribute solutions to global food security challenges, reflecting a broader commitment to international cooperation and sustainable development in agriculture.
