India Exports 3.15 Lakh Tonnes Sugar
India exported around 3.15 lakh tonnes of sugar during the October–February period of the ongoing 2025–26 marketing year, with the United Arab Emirates emerging as the top destination, according to the All India Sugar Trade Association (AISTA).
In a statement issued on Monday, the industry body said that sugar exports continue to remain under government control through quotas allocated proportionally among sugar mills.
The Government of India has approved a total export quota of 2 million tonnes for the 2025–26 marketing year (October–September). This includes an additional 5,00,000 tonnes permitted recently to facilitate overseas shipments.
According to AISTA, white sugar accounted for the bulk of the exports at 2,57,971 tonnes, while refined sugar shipments stood at 53,664 tonnes during the period.
The association noted that Indian sugar has witnessed steady demand in global markets, with several countries sourcing supplies to meet domestic consumption requirements.
Officials said export trends will continue to be monitored in the coming months as the government balances domestic availability with overseas demand under the quota system.
