Heavy Rains Likely to Continue in Parts of Odisha Over Weekend

The Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre has forecast continued heavy rainfall across several parts of Odisha over the weekend. This weather pattern is attributed to a low-pressure area that has formed over the Bay of Bengal.

Manorama Mohanty, Director of the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, stated on Friday that heavy rains are expected to affect specific districts in the state. “Under the impact of the low-pressure area, heavy rains are likely in Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Sundargarh districts on Saturday,” she said.

Residents in these districts are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions to mitigate potential risks associated with heavy rainfall, such as flooding and waterlogging. Local authorities are on high alert and have been instructed to ensure the safety and well-being of the residents.

The Odisha government has mobilized disaster response teams and is closely monitoring the situation. Efforts are underway to manage any emergencies that may arise due to the adverse weather conditions.

The meteorological department has also advised fishermen not to venture into the sea, given the rough sea conditions expected due to the low-pressure system. Coastal areas may experience strong winds and high waves, further exacerbating the impact of the heavy rains.

Citizens are encouraged to stay updated with weather forecasts and heed warnings issued by authorities. Preparedness measures include securing loose objects, staying indoors during heavy downpours, and avoiding travel in areas prone to flooding.

As the state braces for the heavy rains, the Odisha government continues to coordinate with local administrations to ensure a swift response to any emergencies. The primary focus remains on minimizing disruption to daily life and safeguarding the population from the potential hazards of the inclement weather.
