Heatwave Grips Odisha, Alerts Issued

Heatwave Alert Issued for Several Districts in Odisha
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave alert for multiple districts in Odisha as temperatures soar past 40°C in several areas. The warning comes amid growing concerns over rising heat levels across the state.
According to the IMD, an ‘Orange’ alert—indicating a need for people to be prepared and take precautionary measures—has been issued for Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Bolangir, and Bargarh districts. These regions are expected to experience intense heatwave conditions over the coming days.
In addition, a ‘Yellow’ alert, which serves as an early warning to stay informed and cautious, has been issued for Kalahandi, Nuapada, Deogarh, and Angul districts.
The IMD has advised residents in the affected areas to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, stay hydrated, and take necessary precautions, especially between 11 AM and 3 PM when temperatures are at their peak.
Authorities are urging people, particularly the elderly, children, and those with chronic health conditions, to remain indoors during peak hours and to wear light, breathable clothing if venturing outside is unavoidable.
The state government has also directed local administrations to remain on alert and ensure the availability of drinking water, shelter, and emergency medical assistance in vulnerable regions.
As Odisha braces for more scorching days, the IMD continues to monitor the situation closely and will issue further updates as required.
