Harmanpreet, Hardik Eye Strong Hero HIL 2026 Ahead of Key International Season

Indian men’s hockey stars Harmanpreet Singh and Hardik Singh have set their sights on strong campaigns in the Men’s Hero Hockey India League (HIL) 2026, viewing the tournament as a crucial build-up to a demanding international calendar that includes the FIH Pro League, FIH Hockey World Cup 2026, and the 2026 Asian Games.

India and JSW Soorma Hockey Club captain Harmanpreet said the upcoming HIL season comes at an ideal time for the national squad. Emphasising the competitive nature of the league, he noted that each match would feel like an international fixture due to the high quality across franchises. Harmanpreet added that leading Soorma Hockey Club in the league would help build leadership depth while giving younger players valuable exposure alongside senior internationals.

The drag-flick specialist underlined that strong performances in areas such as penalty corners, defensive organisation and work rate during the league would directly impact India’s preparations for the major tournaments later in the year.

Meanwhile, midfield stalwart Hardik Singh will represent the HIL Governing Council team, which has taken over operations from the UP Rudras franchise ahead of the 2026 season. Hardik said the league’s high-intensity and high-pressure environment would be vital preparation before a year packed with global events.

Highlighting the tactical variety and quality of opposition in the league, Hardik said facing different playing styles and top international players week after week would help him and his team maintain rhythm and consistency. He also expressed his aim to take on greater responsibility in both defence and attack to be in peak shape for national duty.

The Men’s Hero Hockey India League 2026 will feature eight franchises competing in a single round-robin format, followed by playoffs and a grand final on January 26 at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar. The tournament begins on January 3 in Chennai, moves to Ranchi, and concludes in Bhubaneswar, promising high-stakes encounters and strong fan engagement throughout the season.
