‘Gyan Post’ Launched to Make Educational Material Delivery Affordable Across India
In a major step towards enhancing access to education, the Hon’ble Minister of Communications and Development of North Eastern Region, Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, announced the publication of the Gazette Notification for the launch of ‘Gyan Post’ today. The initiative aims to enable the affordable delivery of books and study materials through India’s extensive postal network.
At the announcement event, held in the presence of Ms. Vandita Kaul, Secretary (Posts), and Shri Jitendra Gupta, Director General Postal Services, Shri Scindia emphasized the importance of the new service. He stated, “Under the new education policy and syllabus, ‘Gyan Post’ serves as a vital delivery mechanism for ensuring that education reaches every individual.”
Affordable and Accessible Education for All
Designed to support learners across India, especially in remote and rural areas, ‘Gyan Post’ will facilitate the cost-effective transmission of educational, cultural, social, and religious books. The service will ensure that no student or learner is deprived of study material due to distance or financial constraints.
Key highlights of the ‘Gyan Post’ service include:
- Affordable Rates: Starting at ₹20 for packets up to 300 grams and going up to ₹100 for packets up to 5 kilograms (plus applicable taxes).
- Surface Transportation: To minimize costs while ensuring reliable delivery.
- Trackable Parcels: Enabling senders and recipients to monitor shipments.
- Eligibility: Only non-commercial educational materials without significant advertisements will be permitted.
Each item sent must mention the name of the printer or publisher as per guidelines, and commercial publications will not be eligible under this scheme.
Launch Date and Availability
The ‘Gyan Post’ service will become operational across all departmental post offices in India starting May 1, 2025. Citizens can visit their nearest post office or access more information through the official India Post website, www.indiapost.gov.in.
