Govt Measures Boost Toy Exports, Cut Chinese Imports: Economic Survey
Government initiatives, including mandatory quality norms and increased customs duties, have significantly bolstered the domestic toy industry’s export capabilities while reducing reliance on Chinese imports, according to the Economic Survey 2023-24 presented in Parliament on Monday.
The survey highlighted that India’s emergence as a key toy-exporting nation is also due to its successful integration into the global value chain and the benefit of zero-duty market access for domestically manufactured toys in critical countries such as the UAE and Australia.
“The implementation of mandatory quality standards and higher customs duties has played a crucial role in strengthening the domestic toy sector, enhancing its competitive edge in the international market,” the survey stated.
These measures have allowed Indian toy manufacturers to expand their export reach, overcoming long-standing challenges in the global trade landscape. The government’s strategic interventions have not only supported the industry’s growth but also contributed to reducing the influx of low-cost imports from China, fostering a more robust domestic market.
The Economic Survey’s findings underscore the importance of continued support and policy measures to sustain the positive momentum in the toy industry, ensuring its long-term growth and global competitiveness.
