Kalinga Super Cup 2025: FC Goa Face Gokulam Kerala, Odisha FC Host Punjab in Round of 16 Showdowns

The Round of 16 action in the Kalinga Super Cup 2025 continues today with two high-stakes knockout clashes set to light up the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. FC Goa take on I-League side Gokulam Kerala FC in the early fixture, while hosts Odisha FC face Punjab FC in the evening game.

With the tournament adopting a single-elimination format, both fixtures carry immense pressure — only the winners will advance to the quarter-finals, while the losers will exit the competition.

FC Goa vs Gokulam Kerala FC – 4:30 PM IST

The clash between FC Goa and Gokulam Kerala FC promises fireworks. FC Goa arrive on the back of a strong Indian Super League (ISL) season, where they finished second in the league table with 48 points from 24 games. Despite falling short in the semi-finals against Bengaluru FC, the Gaurs have impressed with their 12-game unbeaten run, scoring 43 goals and conceding just 27.

Known for their fluid attacking football and solid defensive organization, FC Goa will aim to assert dominance early against their I-League opponents.

Gokulam Kerala FC, who finished fourth in the I-League with 37 points from 22 matches, are not to be underestimated. The Malabarians, despite a recent 4-3 loss to Dempo FC, possess a direct and dangerous attacking style. With 45 goals scored this season, they have the firepower to challenge even top-tier sides in a one-off contest.

Odisha FC vs Punjab FC – 8:00 PM IST

Later in the evening, home side Odisha FC take on Punjab FC in what is expected to be another tight encounter. Odisha FC will look to capitalise on the home advantage and a slightly superior record to push through to the quarter-finals.

Finishing 7th in the ISL with 33 points, Odisha FC’s campaign was marked by attacking flair, netting 44 goals. However, their leaky defence — conceding 37 goals — has been a cause for concern. Their recent 3-2 win over Jamshedpur FC will give them confidence heading into the knockout clash.

Punjab FC, who ended their ISL season in 10th place with 28 points, have had an inconsistent run. While they managed 8 wins, defensive lapses — conceding 38 goals — have been a persistent issue. Still, they ended their campaign with a draw against Mohammedan SC and will be hoping to spring a surprise.

As the Super Cup heats up, both fixtures on Monday offer a blend of firepower, unpredictability, and do-or-die intensity — hallmarks of knockout football.
