ECoR Restores Landslide-Hit Rail Line

ECoR Restores Koraput–Kirandul Rail Line Disrupted by Landslide in Just Two Days
Bhubaneswar, July 4 — In a commendable display of rapid response and coordination, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) has successfully restored train services between Jarati and Maliguda stations on the Koraput–Kirandul line under the Waltair Division, just two days after a massive landslide disrupted operations.
The landslide, which occurred on July 2 due to incessant rainfall, dumped nearly 25,000 cubic meters of mud and boulders onto the railway track, severely affecting both passenger and freight movement along the crucial corridor.
Despite the challenging hilly terrain and continued rain, ECoR teams, comprising over 300 personnel including engineers, technical staff, and ground workers, sprang into action with a well-coordinated plan. Armed with 16 excavators and heavy earth-moving machinery, they worked tirelessly around the clock under the direct supervision of the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) and senior railway officials from Waltair and Rayagada Divisions.
The debris was fully cleared and the track declared fit for train movement by the evening of July 4. Train operations will initially resume at restricted speeds as a safety precaution.
ECoR General Manager Parmeshwar Funkwal lauded the dedication and efficiency of the workforce, stating, “This swift restoration is a shining example of dedication, coordination, and efficiency, even in the face of adverse weather and difficult terrain.” He personally congratulated the team for restoring a critical route in record time.
ECoR sources informed that restoration work related to signalling and overhead equipment (OHE) is nearing completion, and train services will resume shortly. However, due to temporary coaching rake unavailability and adjustments, some trains will originate and terminate at Koraput today.
Passengers are advised to stay updated on train schedules through official railway platforms before planning their journey.
This quick turnaround has brought much-needed relief to the region and ensured the timely resumption of both passenger and freight traffic on one of the most important rail lines in southern Odisha.
