Cyber Attacks on Government Networks Surge Sevenfold After Operation Sindoor, Says NICSI MD

Cyber attacks targeting government networks have intensified sharply, rising nearly sevenfold since Operation Sindoor, according to National Informatics Centre Services Incorporated (NICSI) Managing Director Alok Tiwari. Speaking at the inaugural session of IFSEC India 2025 in New Delhi, Tiwari noted that the surge in attempted breaches has exposed fresh vulnerabilities across ministries, data centres, and citizen service platforms.
He highlighted that cybersecurity has undergone a “fourfold transformation” in recent years, driven by the government’s push to accelerate AI adoption across ministries and critical public infrastructure. With this increased reliance on digital systems, threats such as ransomware, phishing, and supply-chain attacks have become more frequent and sophisticated.
“Post-Operation Sindoor, attackers have intensified their efforts and attempted hits on government networks have surged nearly seven times,” Tiwari said, stressing the urgent need for proactive and advanced defence mechanisms. He emphasized that bolstering cybersecurity is essential to safeguard sensitive government operations and ensure uninterrupted citizen services.
The comments were shared in a statement by Informa Markets, the organiser of the IFSEC India 2025 security expo, underscoring the growing importance of cybersecurity in India’s rapidly expanding digital ecosystem.
