Odisha CM Majhi Directs Immediate Relief for Farmers Hit by Unseasonal Rains
Bhubaneswar, Dec 28: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday reviewed the crop damage caused by unseasonal rains between December 20 and December 28 and instructed officials to ensure no affected farmer is left without assistance.
Chairing a high-level meeting, Majhi stressed the need for a precise assessment of crop losses and directed concerned departments to complete the evaluation by December 30. He also announced that all affected farmers, regardless of insurance status, would receive assistance through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) under state and central government schemes.
To expedite relief, Majhi called for a large-scale awareness campaign encouraging insured farmers to promptly report their losses to insurance companies within the stipulated timeframe. Additionally, registered farmers from various districts were urged to report their damages via the “Krishi Rakshak” portal or by calling the helpline number 14447.
According to official sources, approximately 1.26 lakh farmers have already reported crop losses under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. Majhi appealed to the media to amplify this message so that no affected farmer is left behind.
The review meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari, Cooperation Minister Pradeep Bala Samanta, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krishna Chandra Patra, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, and senior officials from the Chief Minister’s Office and Agriculture Department.
The state government reaffirmed its commitment to providing timely support to farmers and minimizing the impact of the unseasonal rains on the agricultural community.
