Chennai and Madurai to Host FIH Junior Men’s Hockey World Cup 2025

Hockey India has officially announced Chennai and Madurai, in Tamil Nadu, as the host cities for the prestigious FIH Junior Men’s Hockey World Cup 2025. The highly anticipated event will take place from 28th November to 10th December 2025, marking the first time that 24 teams will compete for the coveted title.

This will be the third consecutive edition of the FIH Junior Men’s Hockey World Cup hosted by India, following the successful tournaments held in Lucknow (2016) and Bhubaneswar (2021). India’s junior team clinched the title in Lucknow, making the upcoming tournament even more exciting for Indian hockey fans.

Hockey India’s Vision and Government Support

Expressing his enthusiasm for hosting the tournament, Dr. Dilip Tirkey, President of Hockey India, extended his gratitude to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Shri MK Stalin and Sports Minister Shri Udhayanidhi Stalin for their unwavering support in bringing the event to the state.

“It is a matter of great pride for Hockey India to host the FIH Junior Men’s Hockey World Cup. With 24 teams participating this time, we have decided to host the tournament in two cities – Chennai and Madurai. While Chennai successfully hosted the Asian Champions Trophy in 2023, Madurai will be hosting an international hockey event of this scale for the first time. We are thrilled to take hockey to different parts of the country and expand its reach,” said Dr. Tirkey.

Hockey India Secretary General Shri Bhola Nath Singh highlighted India’s capabilities in hosting global hockey events. “Our federation has always been at the forefront of hosting international tournaments. Our goal is to take hockey to various parts of India, and the selection of Chennai and Madurai as host cities aligns with this vision. This achievement has been made possible due to the invaluable support from the Tamil Nadu Government and the leadership of our Treasurer Shri Sekar Manoharan.”
