Cabinet Approves 78 Days Productivity Linked Bonus for Railway Employees
In recognition of the outstanding performance by Indian Railways staff, the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved a Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) equivalent to 78 days’ wages for the financial year 2023-24. The bonus, amounting to Rs. 2028.57 crore, will benefit approximately 11.72 lakh non-gazetted railway employees across various categories.
This bonus will be distributed to staff members including Track Maintainers, Loco Pilots, Train Managers (Guards), Station Masters, Supervisors, Technicians, Technician Helpers, Pointsmen, Ministerial staff, and other Group C employees. Each eligible railway employee is set to receive a maximum amount of Rs. 17,951 as part of this incentive.
The PLB is traditionally paid ahead of the Durga Puja and Dusshera holidays, and this year is no different, with employees expected to receive their bonus as a reward for their contributions to improving the performance of Indian Railways.
During the financial year 2023-24, Indian Railways achieved record-breaking performance by loading 1,588 million tonnes of cargo and carrying 6.7 billion passengers. This achievement is attributed to infrastructure upgrades, operational efficiency, and the adoption of advanced technology, supported by the government’s significant capital investment in the rail sector.
The PLB serves as a motivation for railway employees to continue striving for excellence and contributing to the sustained growth and improvement of India’s rail network.
