The announcement was made by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) as it unveiled its 2025 competition calendar on Sunday.
The World Athletics Continental Tour is an annual series of elite track and field competitions, serving as the second tier of international one-day meetings after the renowned Diamond League. Hosting this event marks a significant milestone in India’s efforts to establish itself as a key player on the global athletics stage.
AFI President Adille Sumariwalla expressed pride in the country’s growing reputation in the athletics community. “This is a historic moment for India as we host a Continental Tour event for the first time. Bhubaneswar, with its state-of-the-art infrastructure and a track record of hosting successful international events, is the perfect venue for this meet,” he said.
The bronze-level meet is expected to attract a host of international athletes along with India’s top talents, providing them with a platform to compete at a world-class level and gain critical ranking points for global competitions.
Bhubaneswar has consistently proven its credentials as a premier sporting destination, having previously hosted the 2017 Asian Athletics Championships.
With this event, India’s athletics journey takes another leap forward, promising fans an exciting day of high-level competition and further bolstering the nation’s profile in the global sports ecosystem.
