Bengal Jewellers See Strong Dhanteras Sales

Jewellers, Retailers in Bengal Witness Brisk Dhanteras Sales Despite High Gold Prices

Gold prices failed to dampen festive spirit in West Bengal as jewellery stores and retailers across the state reported strong sales on Dhanteras, driven by improved consumer sentiment and renewed faith in gold as a stable investment.

Jewellers in key Kolkata markets such as Gariahat, Burrabazar, and Camac Street said footfall remained high throughout the day, with customers thronging stores to buy gold ornaments, coins, and other precious items.

Despite soaring gold prices, traders noted that customers were undeterred, buoyed by optimism over the economy and the symbolic significance of Dhanteras purchases. “This year’s sales have been encouraging, and buyers are showing confidence in gold as both an adornment and a secure investment,” said a leading jeweller from Burrabazar.

Retailers of consumer goods, electronics, and utensils also saw robust demand, with markets witnessing a festive rush ahead of Diwali. The momentum was further aided by GST rate rationalisation and discount offers by brands, boosting overall retail activity across the state.

Market associations said Dhanteras sales this year have nearly matched pre-pandemic levels, reflecting strong recovery in consumer spending.
