Anoushka Shankar, Shakti miss Grammys

Anoushka Shankar, Shakti miss out at Grammys

Indian sitarist Anoushka Shankar, fusion band Shakti and musician Siddhant Bhatia failed to secure wins at the 66th Grammy Awards, despite multiple nominations across Global Music categories.

Shankar lost the Global Music Performance award to Bad Bunny’s “EoO”, which also edged out Shakti’s collaborative track “Shirini’s Dream (Live)”. In the Global Music Album category, Shankar’s “Chapter III: We Return to Light”, Shakti’s “Mind Explosion (50th Anniversary Tour Live)” and Bhatia’s “Sounds of Kumbha” were beaten by “Caetano e Bethânia Ao Vivo” by Brazilian legends Caetano Veloso and Maria Bethania.

Daughter of sitar maestro Ravi Shankar, Anoushka Shankar has now received 13 Grammy nominations in her career, including two this year. Her nominated works featured collaborations with Alam Khan and Sarathy Korwar, underscoring her continued global presence in contemporary world music.
