Reigning women’s national champion Anahat Singh bowed out in the quarterfinals of the Boston Open, a USD 15,000 PSA Challenger event, after a hard-fought loss to Egypt’s Jana Swaify.
The Delhi teenager, ranked world No. 45 and seeded second in the tournament, staged a comeback by winning the third and fourth games to push the match to a decider. However, her eighth-seeded opponent eventually clinched the contest 11-4, 11-9, 6-11, 3-11, 11-5.
Anahat had earlier defeated American Charlotte Sze 11-4, 11-6, 9-11, 11-8 in the round-of-16 on Thursday, having received a first-round bye.
Despite the loss, Anahat’s performance highlighted her resilience and potential as one of India’s rising stars in international squash.
