Aman, Sujeet seal World Championship spots

Aman Sehrawat Gears Up for Maiden World Championship Medal; Sujeet Joins Indian Squad

Paris Olympic bronze medallist Aman Sehrawat showed no signs of rust as he breezed through the World Championship selection trials on Monday, earning a spot in the Indian wrestling squad for the prestigious global event in Zagreb, Croatia, next month.

The 22-year-old, competing in his second international tournament post-Olympics, looked sharp and focused, easily dispatching his opponents to book his place in the freestyle 57kg category. Sehrawat, who recently made his return with a bronze at the Mongolia Ranking Series in June, appeared in far better form this time around, showcasing improved movement and technical precision.

“This is a crucial event for me, not just for experience but to prove myself on the World Championship stage,” said Sehrawat after securing qualification. The Zagreb showdown offers him a chance to claim his maiden Worlds medal — a feat that could further cement his status as one of India’s top wrestling prospects.

Joining Sehrawat in the Indian contingent is Sujeet Kalkal, who earned his spot in the 65kg freestyle category with an impressive display of grit and counter-attacking flair. In a fiercely contested category stacked with talent, Sujeet stood out with his aggressive yet calculated wrestling style, turning defense into attack with remarkable agility.

The selection trials, held in Lucknow, witnessed several close bouts, but Sehrawat’s dominance and Sujeet’s resilience were the highlights of the day. The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has emphasized sending a strong and competitive team to Zagreb, especially as the World Championships serve as a key prelude to future Olympic qualification events.

With his eyes set on global glory, Sehrawat now heads into intensive preparation mode, aiming to convert his Olympic bronze momentum into World Championship success. For Sujeet, too, the Worlds offer a major opportunity to establish himself at the elite level.

India’s freestyle wrestling team for the World Championships looks promising, and fans will be eager to see the new generation of grapplers carry forward the nation’s rich wrestling legacy on the world stage.
