AIIMS Bhubaneswar Introduces Suicide Prevention App

AIIMS Bhubaneswar to Launch AI-Based “Never Alone” App to Support Student Mental Health and Prevent Suicides

Bhubaneswar, Sep 13 : AIIMS Bhubaneswar is set to introduce the “Never Alone” programme, an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based mental health platform aimed at improving student well-being and preventing suicides. The initiative, part of a comprehensive effort to provide accessible mental health support and break the stigma surrounding mental health issues among young people, will be officially rolled out following its launch on World Suicide Prevention Day at AIIMS Delhi.

The “Never Alone” app offers students a secure, web-based platform accessible 24/7 via WhatsApp, ensuring that mental health assistance is available anytime, anywhere. The programme will be implemented under the supervision of the Department of Psychiatry at AIIMS Bhubaneswar.

Dr. Ashutosh Biswas, Executive Director of AIIMS Bhubaneswar, stated, “Through this app, students will have access to both virtual and offline consultations with mental health and wellness experts.”

The platform is built on three core pillars:

  1. Screening for mental health concerns through a personalized and secure interface.
  2. Intervention by trained professionals and volunteers, providing timely assistance.
  3. Post-intervention follow-up to ensure continued care and support.

When a student submits a query, AI technology generates a diagnostic summary and treatment link, which is automatically shared with appropriate support channels—AIIMS Bhubaneswar, AIIMS Delhi, the Council for Wellness of Students (CWS), or trained student volunteers—based on the student’s preference.

By integrating psychiatrists, counsellors, faculty members, and student volunteers into a cohesive network, the programme aims to provide prompt, confidential, and compassionate support to those in need.

AIIMS Bhubaneswar’s leadership hopes this initiative will set a national precedent, combining cutting-edge technology with human empathy to address the growing mental health challenges in higher education institutions.

With this step, AIIMS Bhubaneswar aims to ensure that no student has to face mental health struggles alone, fostering a supportive environment that prioritizes well-being and resilience.
