Actor Questioned for Using Live Python

Actor Questioned Over Use of Live Python in Opera Rehearsal in Odisha
A local opera actor landed in trouble after a video showing the use of a live python during a stage rehearsal went viral on social media, prompting the Odisha Forest Department to initiate an inquiry into the incident.
The actor, associated with the popular Odia opera troupe Tulasi Gananatya, appeared before forest officials in Jajpur district on Wednesday to clarify his actions during the rehearsal of the play ‘Ei Bodhe Sesha Dekha’ (This is likely to be the last meeting), held near Chandikhole on Tuesday.
Concerns were raised over the alleged illegal use of a wild animal in the performance, which violates wildlife protection norms. The video clip, which was widely shared online, sparked outrage among netizens and animal rights advocates.
Forest officials have launched an investigation to determine whether necessary permissions were obtained for the use of the python and if any sections of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 were violated.
“We are verifying the origin of the python and whether the troupe had any legal authorization to include it in their act,” a senior forest official said.
The actor reportedly told officials that the python was brought for dramatic effect during rehearsal and not used during public performances. The forest department is expected to take further action based on the inquiry findings.
