India Emerges As Global Hub For Medical Value Travel

India is fast emerging as one of the world’s leading destinations for Medical Value Travel (MVT), combining world-class medical infrastructure, skilled healthcare professionals and affordable treatment with its unique strength in traditional and holistic systems of medicine.

With growing global demand for quality, cost-effective and trusted healthcare, India today offers an integrated ecosystem that blends advanced medical procedures with Ayush-based wellness therapies such as Ayurveda, Yoga and naturopathy.

Highlighting the importance of Medical Value Travel, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that India views medical travel and health workforce mobility as key to building a healthier planet, noting that the country’s holistic and preventive health traditions offer answers to modern lifestyle diseases.

To strengthen quality assurance, the Prime Minister recently launched the Ayush Quality Mark in December 2025, providing an internationally aligned framework for standardised Ayush products and services and boosting global confidence in Indian wellness care.

Union Minister of State (IC) for Ayush Prataprao Jadhav said Medical Value Travel is not only about affordability but also about trust, quality and outcomes, while Ayush Secretary Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha stressed the role of credibility and standardisation in sustaining global growth.

Official data shows that the number of international patients visiting India rose from 1,82,945 in 2020 to 6,44,387 in 2024, with Yoga, Ayurveda and wellness therapies emerging as major growth drivers.

Policy initiatives such as 100 per cent FDI in medical infrastructure, the introduction of the dedicated Ayush Visa in July 2023, expanding insurance coverage for Ayush treatments and adoption of global quality standards have further strengthened India’s MVT framework.

With strong public–private partnerships and global outreach, India’s Medical Value Travel sector is evolving from a cost advantage model to a trusted global destination for integrated, holistic and evidence-based healthcare.
