2026 to Boost India-EU Ties

2026 Likely to See Upswing in India-EU Ties: Jaishankar
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Tuesday said he can “fairly confidently” predict that 2026 will witness a significant upswing in India’s relationship with Europe, adding that Luxembourg can play an important role in strengthening New Delhi’s ties with the European Union.
Addressing the Indian community in Luxembourg, Jaishankar said the global landscape is currently marked by volatility and unpredictability, prompting countries and regions to reassess their strategic interests and partnerships. In this context, he noted, nations are increasingly looking beyond merely “de-risking” their engagements and are instead seeking to build closer friendships and deeper, more reliable partnerships.
“So are there other particular countries, particular relationships that we can trust more than others? And I think that common sense is today bringing India and the European Union much closer,” Jaishankar said.
The External Affairs Minister underlined that shared interests and mutual trust are driving India and the EU toward stronger cooperation across multiple sectors. He added that Luxembourg, with its strategic position in Europe, could offer valuable support in further ramping up India’s engagement with the European Union in the coming years.
Jaishankar’s remarks come amid growing diplomatic and economic engagement between India and the EU, as both sides explore deeper collaboration in trade, technology, security and global governance.
