BCCI directs KKR release Mustafizur Rahman

BCCI Asks KKR to Release Mustafizur Rahman Ahead of IPL 2026

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has directed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to release Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman from its squad ahead of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, citing growing tensions in bilateral relations between India and Bangladesh.

KKR had secured the services of the 30-year-old left-arm pacer for Rs 9.20 crore during last month’s IPL auction, competing against Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals in a bidding war.

The BCCI has stated that KKR will be allowed to name a replacement player if necessary, ensuring the team’s squad balance is maintained for the upcoming season.

This decision comes amid broader geopolitical sensitivities and reflects the board’s stance on participation of players from certain countries under current circumstances.
