Zero FIR Filed in Migrant Death Case

Zero FIR Filed, Bengal Police Team Sent to Odisha: Mamata Banerjee

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday said a “zero FIR” has been filed and a state police team has been sent to Odisha to investigate the death of a migrant worker from West Bengal in Sambalpur district.

The incident involves a 30-year-old migrant worker who was allegedly killed on Wednesday following an altercation over a bidi in BJP-ruled Odisha. Expressing concern over the incident, Banerjee condemned what she described as “brutal oppression, harassment and violence” against Bengali-speaking people in BJP-ruled states.

The Chief Minister said the West Bengal government is closely monitoring the situation and has taken prompt legal steps to ensure a proper investigation. Filing of a zero FIR allows police to initiate action without jurisdictional limitations, enabling faster coordination with authorities in Odisha.

Banerjee also assured that her government would extend all necessary support to the victim’s family and pursue the matter to ensure justice.
