Shrachi Bengal Tigers Target HIL Title

Shrachi Bengal Tigers Ready to Roar in Women’s HIL 2025-26

After finishing third in the inaugural season of the Women’s Hero Hockey India League (HIL), Shrachi Bengal Tigers are gearing up to make a stronger impact in the 2025-26 edition, which begins on December 28. The team will open its campaign against JSW Soorma Hockey Club in Ranchi.

The Tigers have retained key players such as Sushila Chanu Pukhrambam, Mahima Choudhary, and Jennifer Rizzo, while making strategic signings at the mini-auctions. Notably, Agustina Gorzelany was acquired for INR 42 lakh, the highest in the auction, and Monika for INR 15 lakh, making her the most expensive Indian pick.

In goal, veteran Jennifer Rizzo leads the department, backed by young Indian goalkeeper Aditi Maheshwari, who was part of India’s gold-winning team at the Women’s Hockey Junior Asia Cup 2024. The defence features Olympic medallists Agustina Gorzelany and Valentina Raposo, alongside India stalwarts Gurjit Kaur, Mahima Choudhary, and Puja Sahoo, combining experience and youthful energy.

Midfield strength comes from Monika, Sushila Chanu Pukhrambam, Netherlands’ Noor de Baat, Emma Findlay, and Manisha Chauhan, offering leadership, skill, and versatility. The forward line boasts veteran Vandana Katariya with a record 320 caps for India, along with Lalremsiami, and young talents Sukhveer Kaur, Purnima Yadav, Lalrinpuii, and international additions Victoria Manuele and Sosha Benninga.

Guided by Head Coach Deepak Thakur, the Tigers aim to leverage their strong defensive spine, experienced Indian leaders, and promising young forwards to challenge for the title this season. With a balanced mix of experience and youth, Shrachi Bengal Tigers are set to be a formidable contender in Women’s HIL 2025-26.
