Javed Akhtar Says Artificial Intelligence Is Now an Unavoidable Reality
Science will move forward regardless of resistance, says veteran writer-lyricist

Renowned writer and lyricist Javed Akhtar on Monday said that artificial intelligence (AI) has become an inseparable part of modern life and is a reality that “cannot be wished away.” Speaking at the ‘Soundscapes of India – Season 2’ event, Akhtar reflected on the rapid progress of technology and how society has historically resisted new inventions before eventually embracing them.

Responding to a question about the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) dedicating a section to AI-generated content, Akhtar said that technological evolution is inevitable.

“If you see the progress of science, every invention — including automobiles and railway engines — was initially resisted by people. They thought such advancements would negatively affect society, but science is not immoral,” Akhtar remarked.

He added that artificial intelligence is making unbelievable achievements worldwide, and whether one supports it or not, it remains an unstoppable force shaping the future.

Akhtar’s comments come at a time when AI is increasingly influencing creative industries — from filmmaking and music composition to writing and visual arts — sparking debates about ethics, authorship, and employment.
