Commissioner of Police S Dev Datta Singh on Friday dismissed reports of a scuffle between security personnel and members of a Kali Puja committee during an idol immersion procession in Cuttack’s Chandni Chowk area.

Some media outlets had claimed that a few members of the Bakharabad Puja Committee were allegedly assaulted by police personnel without provocation while the procession was passing through the area.

Addressing the issue, Singh said there was no truth to such reports, adding that the immersion processions were carried out peacefully under proper security arrangements.

The commissioner further stated that the police had maintained strict vigil and crowd control measures across key routes to ensure smooth and safe immersion of idols during the Kali Puja festivities.
