Former Odisha Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Singh Mardaraj Passes Away at 70


Former Odisha minister and ex-deputy speaker of the Odisha Legislative Assembly, Bibhuti Bhusan Singh Mardaraj, passed away in the early hours of Thursday. He was 70.

Belonging to the erstwhile royal family of Khandapada, Mardaraj was a prominent political figure in the state, known for his long-standing service and dignified public life. According to his family, he breathed his last at around 12:30 am while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.

He is survived by his wife, son, and daughter.

Mardaraj had served in various key capacities in the state government and legislative assembly. His political career was marked by a deep commitment to public service, particularly in the Nayagarh district.

Condolences have poured in from political leaders, colleagues, and constituents, remembering him as a gentleman politician and a committed public servant. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed grief over his demise and said Mardaraj’s contribution to Odisha’s political and social landscape will be long remembered.

Funeral arrangements and last rites are expected to be held in his hometown of Khandapada, with full state honours.
