Depression Triggers Heavy Rainfall in Odisha

Depression Over Bay of Bengal to Bring Heavy Rainfall in Odisha from July 25 to 28: IMD

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall alert for Odisha as a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a depression. The system is expected to bring widespread rain to the state from July 25 to July 28.

According to the latest IMD bulletin, light to moderate rainfall is likely to occur at most places across Odisha, with isolated areas expected to receive extremely heavy rainfall—exceeding 21 cm—on Friday. The weather system is being closely monitored, and districts in southern and coastal Odisha are likely to be most affected.

The IMD has also predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations between July 26 and July 28, raising concerns about possible waterlogging, localized flooding, and disruption to transportation and agricultural activities.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea, and the state government has placed emergency response teams on alert. The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has urged district administrations to remain vigilant and ensure the functioning of drainage systems to prevent urban flooding.

With monsoon activity intensifying, residents have been advised to stay updated with official weather alerts and take necessary precautions to ensure safety.
