ICC to Consider Bonus Points System for WTC 2025-27 Cycle

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is likely to introduce a new bonus points system in the upcoming 2025-27 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, giving additional weightage to victories against higher-ranked teams.
The proposal will be discussed during the ICC board meeting in April, where members will deliberate on potential changes to the existing points structure. If approved, the bonus system could add a new strategic dimension to the championship, rewarding teams for defeating stronger opponents.
The next WTC cycle is set to begin with India’s five-match Test series against England in June 2025.
Currently, WTC awards 12 points for a win (regardless of margin), six points for a tie, and four points for a draw. The introduction of bonus points could impact team standings and influence how teams approach key matches in the tournament.
Further details on the proposed system are expected following the ICC meeting next month.
