Germany Women’s Hockey Team Arrives in Bhubaneswar for FIH Pro League 2024/25 Fixtures
Bhubaneswar, 10 February 2024: The German Women’s Hockey Team touched down at Biju Patnaik International Airport, Bhubaneswar, Odisha, on Monday as they gear up for their FIH Hockey Pro League 2024/25 matches in India.
Led by Co-Captains Linnea Wiedemann and Sarah Strauss, Germany is set to face Spain on 15 and 16 February before locking horns with hosts India on 21 and 22 February at the iconic Kalinga Stadium.
Germany, who finished as runners-up in last season’s Pro League behind the Netherlands, have struggled to find form this year. With only two draws from four matches, they currently sit seventh in the standings with just three points. Defensive frailties have been a concern, with 13 goals conceded so far, making their upcoming matches crucial for a turnaround.
Upon arrival, Co-Captain Linnea Wiedemann expressed her enthusiasm for playing at the Kalinga Stadium, stating, “The Kalinga Stadium always has an incredible atmosphere, and we are looking forward to playing here. We know facing India in front of their home crowd will be tough, but we will focus on our performance and give our best.”
Her fellow Co-Captain Sarah Strauss echoed similar sentiments, reminiscing about past experiences in Bhubaneswar. “I feel great coming back to Bhubaneswar. We played here three years ago, and it was a wonderful experience. Some experienced players have returned from their post-Olympics break, giving us a fresh squad. We are focusing on team cohesion and looking to secure valuable points,” she said.
The German squad will be aiming to find their rhythm and make an impact in the highly competitive league. With the Pro League serving as a key preparatory platform for the upcoming global tournaments, Germany will be eager to capitalize on their matches in India.
Viacom group holds the broadcast rights for FIH Hockey Pro League 2024/25, ensuring fans can follow the action live from Bhubaneswar.
