In a tragic incident, an 80-year-old woman was mauled to death by a stray dog in Jayarampur village of Bograi block, Balasore district, on Thursday.

The victim, identified as Basanti Sahu, was attacked while she was sleeping inside her house. According to police, the stray dog entered the house during the night and fatally injured her. Neighbors rushed to her aid after hearing her screams but were unable to save her.

Following the attack, locals captured and beat the dog to death. The incident has left the community in shock, raising concerns about stray dog management in the area.

Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation. “This is a deeply unfortunate incident. We are working with local authorities to address the stray dog issue in the region,” said a police official.

The local administration has assured measures to prevent such incidents, including increased vigilance and potential actions for stray animal control.
