5 Killed in Lightning Strikes in Odisha, Heavy Rain to Continue

Tragedy struck Odisha on Wednesday as five individuals lost their lives due to lightning strikes in the Bargarh and Bolangir districts, local police reported.

The fatalities were distributed across two locations: three individuals perished in Duanadihi village, Bargarh, while two others succumbed to the lightning strike in Chaulbanji village, Bolangir.

In response to the unfortunate incident, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced an ex gratia payment of Rs 4 lakh to the families of each deceased individual. An official release confirmed this financial support aimed at aiding the bereaved families during this difficult time.

Odisha has been experiencing severe weather conditions, and heavy rainfall is expected to continue, exacerbating the risk of further lightning strikes and other weather-related incidents. The state administration has urged residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions during this period of inclement weather.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have deployed emergency services to assist affected communities. The Chief Minister also expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and assured them of the government’s support.
