5 Engineering Students Suspended, Detained for Ragging in Keonjhar

In a shocking incident of ragging, five senior students of the Government Engineering College in Keonjhar were detained by police on Wednesday for allegedly assaulting a junior student. The accused have also been suspended from the institution for a year.
According to police, the incident occurred on Tuesday night when the senior students reportedly forced their way into the victim’s hostel room and attacked him with a stick and an iron rod. The junior student, whose identity has been withheld, lodged a formal complaint at the Town Police Station, prompting swift action by both the police and college administration.
“We have detained the accused students based on the victim’s complaint. They will be questioned, and further legal action will follow,” said a senior police officer from Town Police Station.
Following the incident, the college authorities convened an emergency meeting and decided to suspend the five students for one academic year as part of their zero-tolerance policy against ragging.
“We condemn such acts of violence and have taken strict disciplinary action to ensure the safety of all students on campus. The college is committed to maintaining a ragging-free environment,” said a college spokesperson.
The victim is reportedly undergoing medical treatment but is stated to be out of danger.
Police are continuing their investigation, and the detained students may face additional legal consequences under anti-ragging laws.
