VP Dhankhar Urges Revival, Educational Reform

VP Dhankhar Calls for Rebuilding Sanatan Pride, Moderation in Politics, and Reforms in Education

Puducherry, June 17 : Vice-President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, today delivered a stirring address at Pondicherry University, urging the nation to reclaim its civilisational heritage, moderate political discourse, and realign education with its original service-oriented spirit.

Speaking to students, faculty, and dignitaries, Shri Dhankhar emphasized the resurgence of “Sanatan pride” and the revival of India’s ancient knowledge systems, referencing the destruction of historic institutions like Nalanda by invasions. “What was lost is being rebuilt with stronger determination,” he declared, pointing to the rich intellectual traditions of Takshashila, Mithila, and Vallabhi.

Calling for a shift in political behavior, the Vice-President cautioned against rising partisanship. “Why should we melt the glaciers of our patience? Why should we act impatiently, getting away from our civilisational and spiritual essence?” he asked, urging politicians to reduce confrontation and embrace dialogue rooted in the Vedic tradition of Vaad-Vivad (debate and discourse).

On education, Shri Dhankhar expressed concern over increasing commercialization. “Education as service stands at odds with the current commercial model that is fast emerging,” he noted, urging corporates to use CSR funds for establishing world-class educational institutions as greenfield projects. He also called on alumni to contribute to university endowments, drawing inspiration from global practices.

Touching on the linguistic diversity of India, the Vice-President emphasized that languages should unite, not divide. “Our languages indicate inclusivity… Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Odia, Marathi, and others are classical languages that reflect our civilisational depth,” he said.

Shri Dhankhar concluded with a passionate appeal for introspection, inclusivity, and national unity, especially as India emerges on the global stage as the most aspirational nation.

The event was graced by several dignitaries including Shri K. Kailashnathan, Hon’ble Lt. Governor of Puducherry, Shri N. Rangasamy, Chief Minister of Puducherry, Shri Embalam Selvam, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, and Members of Parliament Shri S. Selvaganapathy and Shri V. Vaithilingam.
