Vice-President Advocates Alumni Engagement at Panjab University’s 5th Global Alumni Meet

The Vice-President of India, speaking at the 5th Global Alumni Meet of Panjab University, underscored the pivotal role of alumni in shaping the future of their alma mater. The event, held in Chandigarh, celebrated the rich legacy and accomplishments of Panjab University’s alumni, including leaders from diverse fields such as governance, journalism, and disaster management.

The Vice-President lauded the contributions of esteemed alumni present on the dais, including Acharya Devvrat, Governor of Gujarat, known for his advocacy of natural and organic farming; Shri K.K. Paul, former Governor and senior administrator; Shri Shekhar Gupta, veteran journalist; and Shri Atul Karwal, Director General of the National Disaster Response Force, recognized for his exemplary disaster management efforts.

Highlighting the transformative potential of alumni engagement, the Vice-President called upon the university’s alumni to establish structured associations and endowment funds to nurture their alma mater. He cited global examples, such as Harvard University’s $53 billion endowment fund, to emphasize the impact of alumni-driven initiatives on institutional growth and innovation.

The Vice-President also celebrated the achievements of Professor Renu Vig, Panjab University’s first woman Vice-Chancellor, commending her leadership in promoting transparency and accountability.

In a heartfelt appeal, the Vice-President urged alumni to contribute meaningfully to the university’s development, emphasizing that even small efforts could lead to monumental changes. He advocated for the creation of a national confederation of alumni associations to pool resources and ideas for national development.

Reflecting on India’s journey from economic challenges in the 1990s to becoming one of the top five global economies, the Vice-President credited the nation’s resilience and leadership. He called for collective efforts to foster nationalism and ensure the progress of institutions like Panjab University.

The Vice-President concluded by inspiring the alumni to take a pledge to support the university annually, emphasizing the importance of alumni contributions in shaping future leaders and fostering critical thinking, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

The event showcased Panjab University’s enduring legacy and its alumni’s commitment to driving change and excellence.
