Varun Dhawan Reveals Aditya Chopra Once Refused to Cast Him in Action Film

Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan recently shared an intriguing anecdote about his early career aspirations during the trailer launch of the Prime Video series Citadel: Honey Bunny, where he stars alongside Samantha Ruth Prabhu. Dhawan revealed that he had once approached producer Aditya Chopra, expressing his desire to star in a big-budget action film. However, Chopra turned him down, stating that Dhawan was not yet “at that place” to justify the substantial budget required for such a project.

During the event, Dhawan recounted a meeting with Chopra and director Maneesh Sharma during the pandemic. He recalled, “I asked him, ‘Why don’t you make an action film with a younger talent?’ He was like, ‘I want to give you acting roles, and don’t want to give you action (roles).’ I kept pursuing it.”

This revelation highlights the challenges young actors face in the industry, as they strive to carve out their niche in various genres. Now leading the India chapter of the global spy series, Dhawan has clearly made strides in his career, showcasing his versatility as an actor.

Citadel: Honey Bunny is expected to be a significant project for Dhawan, further solidifying his position in the action genre he once sought after. The series is generating buzz among fans, and Dhawan’s journey reflects his determination to evolve as an actor in the competitive landscape of Bollywood.
