Title:Coal Stocks at Thermal Power Plants Secure Despite High Demand
Despite a surge in power demand, Thermal Power Plants across India maintain robust coal stocks exceeding 45 million tonnes, a 30% increase from last year. These stocks are ample, ensuring a 19-day supply buffer. The Ministry of Power, Ministry of Coal, Ministry of Railways, and power companies’ joint efforts in logistics have played a pivotal role. Coal production has grown by over 8%, with pit-head stocks exceeding 100 million tonnes. Railways have increased daily rake availability by 9%, and coastal shipping from multiple ports now supports efficient coal evacuation. Infrastructure upgrades in railway networks have slashed turnaround times significantly, notably from Son Nagar to Dadri. The Ministry of Coal affirms readiness for monsoon season, targeting over 42 million tonnes at Thermal Power Plants by July 1, 2024.
