Three swept away, rescued in Koraput

Three Swept Away in Floodwaters While Crossing Bridge, Rescued in Koraput

In a dramatic incident, three people along with their motorcycle were swept away by strong flood currents while attempting to cross a submerged bridge in Odisha’s Koraput district on Thursday, police said.

The mishap occurred on the bridge connecting Malda with Kailari under Borigumma block, which had been inundated due to heavy rains in the region.

According to officials, the trio miscalculated the water’s force while crossing, leading them to lose balance and get dragged downstream along with the two-wheeler. Alert local residents immediately rushed to their rescue and managed to pull all three to safety.

“They were fortunate to be saved in time by locals, otherwise the situation could have turned tragic,” a senior police officer said.

Authorities have urged residents not to cross submerged bridges or venture into flooded areas until the water recedes, as the district continues to witness heavy rainfall and rising water levels.
