Srinagar Airport Shuts Amid Border Tensions

Civilian Flights Suspended at Srinagar Airport Until May 15 Amid India-Pakistan Tensions
Civilian flight operations at Srinagar International Airport will remain suspended until midnight of May 15, authorities confirmed on Friday, as military tensions between India and Pakistan continue to escalate following recent cross-border strikes.
“Please note that Srinagar Airport is closed up to 2359 hours of 14.05.2025 for flight operations,” an official from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) stated, advising passengers to check with airlines before planning travel.
The airport was first closed on May 7, shortly after India launched precision missile strikes targeting terror infrastructure across the border in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) under the ongoing Operation Sindoor. The strikes triggered retaliatory shelling by Pakistan, raising security concerns in the border regions, including Jammu and Kashmir.
Heightened military activity in the region, including the deployment of air defense systems and surveillance operations, has led to increased restrictions on civilian air movement.
Officials have not confirmed if the closure may be extended further, but security agencies are closely monitoring the situation. The Indian Air Force continues to maintain a high-alert status in the region.
Passengers holding tickets for flights during the suspension period are advised to contact airlines for rescheduling or refunds.
