Sobha Group’s Sri Kurumba Trust Celebrates 14 Years of Dowry-Free Weddings

The Sri Kurumba Educational and Charitable Trust celebrated its 14th annual dowry-free wedding ceremony on July 13 in Moolamcode, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to community welfare. Established in 1994 and managed by Mr. PNC Menon and Mrs. Sobha Menon, the Trust has been instrumental in conducting nearly 700 dowry-free weddings since the initiative began in 2008.

This year’s event witnessed thirteen couples from the Palakkad region tying the knot in a ceremony that included traditional rituals and festivities. The presence of dignitaries, including Mrs. Sobha Menon and Mrs. Bindu Menon, added to the occasion’s significance.

The initiative aims to alleviate the financial burden and social stigma surrounding dowry, particularly for families living below the poverty line. By offering a platform for dowry-free marriages, the Trust seeks to promote equality and social justice within the community.

In addition to facilitating the weddings, the Trust provides essential support services such as marriage counseling, post-marriage assistance, and kitchenware to help newlyweds establish their households. Each bride also received a traditional gift of 36 grams of gold from the Trust, further aiding their new journey.

The success of this initiative underscores the Sobha Group’s commitment to philanthropy and community service, reinforcing its role as a leader in corporate social responsibility. As the Trust continues its vital work, it remains dedicated to creating positive social change and supporting those in need.
