Nabin slams Congress over women’s bill defeat

BJP accuses Congress of ‘anti-women stance’

Nitin Nabin on Friday launched a sharp attack on the Congress and its allies after the defeat of the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill in the Lok Sabha, alleging that their position exposed an “anti-women mindset.”

Speaking to the media at the Parliament House complex, the BJP national president said the day had the potential to become a landmark moment for women’s empowerment but was instead marked by what he termed a “grave betrayal.”

Nabin accused the opposition alliance, led by Rahul Gandhi, of failing to support legislation aimed at enhancing women’s representation in legislatures. “The Congress party and its allies have committed a serious injustice against half of the country’s population,” he said.

The proposed amendment bill sought to advance long-pending efforts to ensure greater reservation for women in legislative bodies. Its defeat has triggered a fresh political confrontation, with the BJP blaming the opposition for blocking a key reform measure.

The Congress and its allies have not yet issued a detailed response to the allegations, even as the debate over women’s reservation and political accountability continues to intensify.
